Winter Wonderland in September?

It's already getting really cold here. I have heard people telling horror stories about the REAL winter that's about to set in about a month. I wonder...

En route to school this morning, this awesome sight caught my eyes:

On the way back home after picking up my teenager from Band an hour later, we stopped and captured these magical moments:

...one way to make winter wonderland in September!

Meet Templeton

Isn't he sweet? Templeton and his mom are the latest rescued, by Crystal Peaks Horse Ranch, from some local rancher' long neglect in Prineville. Not only rejected by his mother, Templeton had been walking on top of his hooves since birth. He is recovering nicely after a couple of surgeries.

Morgan and Molly, the interns, were super nice...wish they can stay permanently.

Animal neglect and abandonment has been common around here due to poor economy. If you notice neglect, please contact the proper authorities to ensure the best outcome for the animal involved. Every morning on the way to work, you drive by a small pasture that contains seven horses. It is winter and the ground is frozen and covered with snow. There is no hay on the ground, and the horses appear to be thin under their shaggy coats. Don't just drive away and do nothing. You can help.

Thank you, Kim and Troy, for giving Templeton another chance of living and my kids a chance to serve. Our time at the ranch is precious and dear to our hearts.

Last of Campfire :0(

Camp Fire USA builds caring, confident youth and future leaders in our communities. My kids have been a part of COOL Cougars for three years now. They truly enjoyed the camaraderie of running with friends weekly plus contributing in special events around town...but not the fundraising aspect, sadly.

This is their first environmental trail at Camp Meadow for the year but also last as Campfire kids.

I still plan to volunteer as day camp counselor in the summer so my kids will still be able to hang out with their friends for a week in Tumalo State Park. Maybe they will change their mind to rejoin before then?

LEAN ON ME
Sometimes in our lives,
We all have pain, we all have sorrow.
But if we are wise,
we know that there's always tomorrow.

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on,
For it won't be long, 'til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on.

Please swallow your pride,
If I have things you need to borrow.
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won't let show

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on,
For it won't be long, 'til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on.

You just call on me sister when you need a hand.
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand.
We all need somebody to lean on.

You just call on me sister if you need a friend.
We all need somebody to lean on.
I just might have a problem that you'll understand.
We all need somebody to lean on.

Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on,
For it won't be long, 'til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on.

1st Day Back in School since Kindergarten

...not so fast. We are still homeschooling. DD#1 is only enrolling in Advanced Band. The first day of school is special. It is the first official send off for my child to school and quite possibly the return of normalcy for me--who am I kidding?

Little advice to the 8th graders:
Be open, polite, and nice. If you're funny, you're gold! Don't let boys take your focus away from school work! Seeing friends can make the first day a good one (thanks Erica for being there for my daughter.) You sure can make the day special by wearing an outfit you like.

It's time to pick the kids up...YIKES!!!!! I couldn't even get close to the parking lot. DD#1 ended up meeting me on the main street and we had to detour out of this mess. How do all other moms do it and so well?

Where did the day go? I have been working on getting these two photos from early loaded and somehow it has taken me 'til the very last minute to get it done. DD#2 decided to be in the band this year. The other two started Campfire. Honestly, everyone was thrilled to be starting back up again. I am grateful that my kids enjoy their activities.
